One of the largest paintings I have done Horses After the Storm, 4 by 4 ft.
I started with an underpaint of yellow. Painted the sky starburst on day 1, on day 2 played with the clouds. Jan 13, added the beach and horses. Mostly working with a palette knife.
Now I had the basic shapes and thoughts -it was time to fix things and see what else it needed.
Jan 14th I worked on the clouds and horizon line. Small touchups to horses. I did not like the clouds, so brought the image into Gimp 2.0 (great free photo editing software) and played with the airbrush. I liked the composition it created, will be tryed to replicate with oil next session.
The gimp changes were moved on to the picture. Final step was to paint the sides, to give the gallery wrapped feeling. Three weeks, and it was be ready to move. To where is of course the questions!
And installed on the wall. Odd how the colours match the room :)
Horses in the Badlands - continued the theme.. oil on board. 16 by 20 The Ride, another Oil on Board… Canyons (same)… And finally, in acrylic, the Unicorn, 8 by 8.
